Capener's connecting

Bobby and I got to see each other yesterday....I wasn't organized enough to get a picture of the two of us. The Charlotte airport was busy, but we enjoyed chatting in front of the statue of Queen Charlotte in the cool fall sunshine.

Where is the SD fire now?

This is the best website I have found for tracking the San Diego fire. I am glad Mom got to get back home last night.

Great Grandpa Don

Hi Everybody! This week Ken Burn's documentary, The War, has been playing on PBS. While watching it, I've been continually awed and amazed at the unearthly conditions that so many soldiers braved. It has left me remembering Great Grandpa Don. To this day he is one of the kindest, most gentle men I have ever known.

I remember sitting on his knee and breathing in the sweet smell of his pipe while we flipped through the photo album containing the pictures he took while stationed in the Pacific. There were photos of endless jungle and sandy beaches and Grandpa Don looking young and handsome and taller than everyone else. As I looked through the pictures, I clearly remember him explaining to me "Now honey, I didn't want to kill anyone, but it was them or me and if I didn't shoot them they were going to kill me." For some reason I've never forgotten that moment. Does anyone else have Great Grandpa Don memories they'd like to share? Does anyone have a picture they'd like to share? I know there are a lot of good ones, but sady, I don't have any. :(!

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

As summer is ending, I'm thinking about what my favorite part of the summer has been. It's easy to point to the time of year I love the most...... Fourth of July time. Celebrations abound at that time of year for me, beginning with my birthday on July 2nd, then America's "birthday" on the 4th and then my anniversary on July 5th. Anthony and I just celebrated our 10 year anniversary. That night we dinned out at a really great restaurant in Del Mar called Market (it's over by Scalini's across from the Polo Fields and Mary's Tack and Feed---for those who know local geography). Grandma Rosie helped watch her two grandkids that night, awesome!

One of the main reasons that I enjoy that time of year so much is I usually spend it in Del Mar with M. Each summer I really look forward to that trip. All other summer fun stuff is good too... but, for me 4th of July time is simply spectacular!

Sunday favorites

I have thought of another idea for our post...we'll see if anyone else likes it. Let's share something we enjoyed from church each Sunday...it might be fun to know what's important to each of us spiritually. I wanted to share one of my favorite talks from the last general conference...by Elder Eyring. The link is http://lds.org/conference/talk/display/0,5232,23-1-690-32,00.html
I also wanted to mention how much I enjoy teaching the family relations class. Today I am speaking on forgiveness in marriage...wow, is that an important topic. As I have prepared the lesson I have been impressed with how insightful President Faust's last conference talk was. We need to forgive, because when we don't forgive, it slows our spiritual progress. Read for yourself... http://lds.org/conference/talk/display/0,5232,23-1-690-24,00.html

Hi Family!

Hi Family,
Hope this note finds you all well and happy.
I'm so glad we have this "blog" and hope we can keep the communication going. I think the "tag" business sounds fun, Katy! Aunt Mer doesn't know she's been tagged.
What's everyone up to?
Let's hear some news....
I'm working away here in San Diego with a heat wave and humidity which comes once a year for several weeks (I know, that's nothing to complain about!)compared to a few
other places in the country! Cali (my cocker spaniel) and I usually turn in early and watch a couple tv shows, then get up really early for a long walk when it's a little cooler. I got a nice little "r2d2" air conditioning unit on wheels from
Cape and I'm happily cooling the bedroom! Using Cali's doggie door for the vent.
Oooops, sorry Cali!
Love & hugs to all,
Mom/Rosalie/Oma/Grandma Rosie

NYC/New Hampshire

Hey Everyone,
I wanted to let you know that Allie and Anne have had great summers as well-whether it was at EFY at BYU or tennis camp or volleyball camp or chilling on the lake in New Hampshire, they have been loving this weather and taking advantage of every minute of summertime.
I am going to be in Park city for a quick visit this weekend-then Lexi moves back to London full time to get her Masters degree in Modern and Contemporary Art from the London Institute of Art.
I am moving apartments again in NYC, which will be 4 moves in 4 years-Ouch!
But I am going to be back in the west village, an area of NYc that I truly love-so I'm stoked!
Anyway, I hope your summers are winding down nicely. Thinking of you all!
Love, Cape

Lets Play Tag

Thanks to everyone for your positive response to the blog. Keep the posts coming! They're so fun to see.

While everyone composes their updates I thought we could play a little blogging game of tag. This is how you play: Someone tags you with a series of questions. (You can copy and paste them into your post) You answer and then you get to tag somebody else. You can also add or change the questions while you are "it." I thought I could start it off and I hope I can pick a willing victim.

Picture of your choice (Preferably with you in it)

Here I am on Eliza's Birthday. I think she's about fourty minutes old in this picture.

Where you Live:

Charlottesville VA

Favorite book you read recently:

White Teeth by Zadie Smith

Favorite movie you watched recently:

The Planet Earth Series made by the BBC
and if that's too nerdy, Stranger than Fiction

I really want to see Transformers

Three things you like to do for fun:

1. Ride my bike to and from work

2. Hike in the Blue Ridge with Aaron

3. Draw and Paint at home

CD you have in the CD player at this moment:

Broken Strings by Bishop Allen

A bit of good news from your life:

I just started taking violin lessons. I am absolutely TERRIBLE but love it. It's taking me two weeks to figure out Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. But I'm enjoying the challenge and having a lot of fun.

Where would you like to go on vacation:

Anywhere! Brazil and Tokyo seem nice right now. I've always wanted to visit Turkey and Italy. Or New Zealand or Antartica or Costa Rica or ....

We are family!

For those of you who haven't met Eliza, I thought I'd post a pic here of her! Abby took this shot of Eliza (and my awesomely white legs) when she was visiting us last week. You can see more pictures of us on our blog, but I would LOVE to see more pictures from everyone else-- especially all the kiddies who always seem to be like different people every time I get to see them!! This is such a fun idea, Oma and Katy! Blog-on!

I am excited about this blog!

I know many of you receive Robby's weekly letters, but I thought you might like seeing a picture.
